Fundamental Knowledge of Contemporary China 当代中国概况: In this Unit, you will learn the foundation of contemporary Chinese culture. Spanning geography, economics, politics, literature, philosophy and art, contemporary China can only be accurately described and presented through an understanding of the history of the Chinese people.
You will learn:
- Knowledge of the basics tenets of Chinese culture.
- To connect historical perspectives to contemporary Chinese culture.
- How to prepare to participate in popular Chinese culture.
Social Interaction in China 中国的社会交往: In this Unit, you will gain an understanding of social interactions in China. Relationships are developed through the values and history of the Chinese people. Customs and family will be a central theme to be presented and explored. The Unit will conclude with a practical do’s and don’ts approach to social interaction with the Chinese people.
You will learn:
- About key Chinese festivals and customs.
- How to participate appropriately in Chinese customs.
- To compare and contrast the values and customs of marriage and family in China with western norms.
- A social network strategy to building relationships in China.
- The do’s and don’ts of Chinese social interaction.
Professional Interaction in China 中国的职场交际: In this Unit you will learn the basics of professional interaction in China through understanding professional values, culture and norms. You will also develop an important skill set to move into negotiating and developing agreements. The Unit will conclude with a practical do’s and don’ts approach to professional interaction in China.
You will learn:
- The basics of professional culture in China.
- How to practice effective Chinese professional communication strategies.
- To compare the differences in Chinese business structure, management and relationships with western approaches.
- Strategies for negotiations and how to develop agreements with Chinese professionals.

Cheng Long, 程龙
Dr. Cheng Long is a master’s program professor at Beijing Language and Culture University. His main areas of research include history of cultural exchange, international Chinese language education history, Chinese history and Chinese geography. Dr. Cheng is a published author, has presided at a Postdoctoral Science Foundation project at Peking University and participated in more than 10 projects involving the Ministry of Education, National Natural Science Foundation and the Beijing Social Science Foundation.

|How is the International Honors Certificate designed?||Each International Honors Certificate Course is specialized content from a top university and contains three Units. Each Unit has an end of Unit Quiz which must be passed prior to moving forward. At the end of all three Units, you must pass a Certificate final exam in order to earn the International Honors Certificate.|
|How is the International Honors Certificate Unit graded?||The IHC Units are pass/fail in nature and the student must achieve at least 80% to pass. Students will need to pass the end of Certificate Exam to complete and receive the Certificate.|
|How many times can I take an End of Unit quiz in the International Honors Certificate?||The Unit quiz may be taken an unlimited number of times.|
|How many times can I take the International Honors end of Certificate exam?||Students have two attempts to pass the end of Certificate final exam. Students who do not achieve the required minimum score of 80% by the second attempt will not pass the IHC and will not receive a Certificate.|
|How long do I have to complete the International Honors Certificate Unit?||You will have 90 days to finish the International Honors Certificate.|
|What if I signed up for the wrong Certificate? (What is the refund policy?)||Your satisfaction is our goal. If for any reason you are not satisfied, you will have 3 days from purchase by which to request a refund for the International Honors Certificate.
